Two in-vehicle GPS products found their way into the GlobalSources.com top 20 electronics for the first time in January 2014.
Car GPS navigation systems is the more popular of the two, in terms of both the actual number of requests for information received and RFI growth rate.
GPS vehicle tracking systems performed better from an annual perspective. Inquiries for the product rose 88 percent YoY compared with 37 percent for car GPS navigation systems. China-made systems come with scanners, cameras, sensors and buzzer alarms.
A third GPS category, car GPS trackers, is a top 20 fixture. It has been on the list for the past 12 straight months, with features and software upgrades sustaining popularity.
Among non-GPS products, watch phones posted the highest on-month RFI growth at 92 percent. It first appeared on the top 20 in November 2013 as buyers inquired about Android-based models with dual-core Cortex-A9 processors.
