Light-Load Efficiency Power Factor ControllerOn Semiconductor NCP1602 6-pin Enhanced, Light-Load Efficiency Power Factor Corrected (PFC) Controller optimizes PFC boost stage efficiency across a load range. The NCP1602 controller is designed using the innovative Valley Synchronized Frequency Foldback (VSFF) method. The VSFF method maximizes efficiency for nominal and light loads. Using the VSFF method, the circuit operates in Critical conduction Mode (CrM) if the control voltage exceeds a programmable value. This method reduces the stand-by losses. Similar to FCCrM controllers, the NCP1602's internal circuitry enables near-unity power factor even when the switching frequency is reduced. The NCP1602 Power Factor Controller is ideally suited for applications in which reliability, low stand−by power, and high efficiency are key considerations. |
